Opponents of under fire leader Muammar Gaddafi on 27 February took control of more Libyan cities, as the first attempts at forming new political institutions in the North African country surfaced. Government troops and security forces loyal to Gaddafi were forced to leave Misurata, Libya's third-largest city, when protesters gained control, residents said. Witnesses in al-Zawiyah, west of Tripoli, said protesters were in control of that city also, with police stations and government buildings torched on 27 February. EPA/WEISS ANDERSEN FLEMMING
